WHH Short Fiction: “What Happened in the Thunderbolt”

Review: “What Happened in the Thunderbolt”, William Hope Hodgson, 1916.

NSB V5
Cover by Jason Van Hollander

This story seems like a trial runner for another Hodgson story, “Jack Grey, Second Mate” published in 1917.

Both have a ship’s officer defending a female passenger from the unwanted attentions of a man, the man conspiring with the crew to capture her, and a fight (not really one of Hodgson’s usual sieges) ensues. The miscreant is killed.

Our hero, the narrator, marries the woman.
